Frequently asked questions | Smace Yatching

What boats do you use?

Catamarans only, 12 meters and up in length. The catamaran offers exceptional livability, as well as increased stability to counteract rolling.

What amenities on board?

Boat equipment:

  • power generator to ensure 220 volts on board at all times (for laptops but also other uses, often a luxury on a sailboat, such as a hair dryer!)
  • desalinator, meaning endless water on board. No one will ever have to brush their teeth with bottled water or look for some hose around the coast. The boat takes sea water and turns it into clean fresh water
  • Dinghy, which is a small inflatable boat to allow small movements or disembarkation of guests with the boat in the roadstead
  • Air conditioning in all cabins and dinette

Crew:

  • skipper – responsible for running the boat, with necessary license
  • boat hostess/steward – responsible for the galley (the shopping on board) and all meals eaten on board

Possible extras: inflatable canoe, SUP, snorkeling equipment, fishing equipment. We will try to fulfill every possible request, making sure you have the required equipment on board

What are the cabins like?

There are 3 types of cabins in the catamarans we use:

  • guest cabins: these are all double cabins with private bathroom (with shower) in the cabin. For those who have already tried monohull sailing (net of course of mega yachts), you will notice and appreciate the space of the cabins in the catamarans very much! There are usually at least 3 and a maximum of 5 in the cat’s we will be taking
  • cabin crew : single cabins (more coniculi into which you lower from above) for the crew. It is not recommended to count these cabins for guests. There are usually 1 or 2
  • dinette: basically the living room turns into a double room. While having plenty of space, this “cabin” has neither privacy nor a dedicated bathroom. We recommend this solution only if the guests know each other well.
What abou the connection?

The connection is taken care of by Smace! We use Starlink satellite antennas that provide coverage in any location, even the most remote. In addition to satellite navigation, we equip our boats with 4/5G mobile routers with phone sims from all major carriers. If we told you that you would probably sail faster on a boat than in the office, would you believe us?

How often does it go to port

At the discretion of the client (budget), guests and of course the weather. If the weather does not allow it, we will prefer to stay in port to ensure we can work. We generally consider 1 day for every 3 in port. These costs are extras for which the client will have to be asked for an extra budget to deal with these expenses. Same for fuel.

What if the weather is bad

SMACE Yachting will be responsible for finding a location to allow work ashore, limiting boat life to sleeping (the boat will still be in port)

What happens if guests suffer the sea

Unfortunately, there is nothing to be done except to accompany the guest to the ground. Perhaps the guest could opt for a lastminute replacement.

How do workspaces work

The inside dinette area provides for silence, while in the cockpit area (outside part) you can talk. To make calls you can ask for silence outside, make calls in the cabins or give room for your imagination, creating your ideal workstation. SMACE Yachting will give advice and provide equipment to create comfortable workstations (chairs, tables, standing desks) outside the boat. Of course, these are only suggestions; guests will be able to make their own arrangements as they wish.

How to manage the meals

If you choose to have hostesses/stewards on board, all meals will be prepared by the crew. Guests will give guidance on budget and any food allergies and/or preferences to make grocery shopping. Otherwise like any shared house, everyone manages themselves for grocery shopping (galley) and meal preparation.

Who decides where to go

The decision is made by the skipper (or route manager in the flotilla). Guests may express preferences but the decision is unchallengeable by the skipper
